Jean Ann Hepburn (1885-1947) married James Graham Gilchrist in 1909. Her son Andrew Graham Gilchrist was knighted for his public service in the Foreign Service. Although Sir Andrew was a controversial character to some, my grandfather was proud to call him one of the family (see his obituary below). James and Jean Ann bought the well known Kerse estate near Lesmahagow. A bit of that history is found through the links below. Spreadsheets of births and marriages were created in trying to sort out the many Gilchrist families in the Lesmahagow Parish of Lanark. As with other families I have provided these in a pdf format hoping that other researchers would be able to use them to identify other related families. This data mostly comes from the LDS web site. There is also a file of census data extracted from the ScotlandsPeople site. |
