The family roots that my grandfather was most proud of were the Orr's of Kaim. The Kaim is a farm that still exists a few miles north of Lochwinnoch that was handed down through 10 generations of William Orrs. (William always being the name of the first son who always got the farm). Grandfather's Orr family tree I believe was primarily based on the data from The Cairn of Lochwinnoch Matters, a hand-written, 43 volume 'book' of local and family history written by the local doctor Andro Crawfurd. You can refer to the Lochwinnoch village website for more information on this family. The aim of this page is to share information that I have collected on a number of branches of the Orr family tree that took root in Southern Ontario around Woodstock in the 1850's. William Orr (1779-1844) and Janet Brodie (1783-1849) had 10 children; two boys and eight girls. Five of the girls ended up in Canada, three of them having been married before emigrating. I have spent a fair bit of time assembling the census and vitals statistics information that is provided in the files below. Extracts of the five branches from grandfather's Orr tree (circa 1960) can be selected below. Related names include Ontario families beyond what is found on these charts (refer to the genealogical reports below). Some of the information in these charts is erroneous and some parts are incomplete but it was certainly a good product considering the tools available at the time. |
